Rod Hannifey is our resident Host of ‘Truck That Australia‘ which is released monthly on Whiteline and now he also brings you the Truckies Top Ten Tip #03 for cars and trucks to share the roads safely together. This advice is presented in good faith not to tell people what to do but to provide constructive friendly advice on how we can all get along better for a safer outcome. In this third short video Rod explains the third of the Top Ten tips which is about not speeding up when a heavy vehicle is trying to overtake. When you think of the sheer size of some of these vehicles B’Doubles weighing in at up to 68 tonnes, and as long as 26 metres it is easy to forget that they are speed limited to 100kph, the only time they can exceed this is downhill when it is the drivers responsibility to utilise the braking system. That’s called Gravity. This is another key factor with sharing the roads together. On single lane roads, we don’t want to be on the wrong side of the road for too long so perhaps just ease off on the accelerator just a little, don’t brake, in a few seconds we’ll be out of your way. We all want to complete our journey safely and return home to our loved ones and families. Oh and when you feel comfortable perhaps just give us a little flash of the headlights to let us know it is safe for us to come back in.
